Yoga - More Yin Please!

Summer is the ideal time to practice Yin Yoga. The benefits of Yin are immeasurable, Yin yoga allows us to work the deeper parts of the body, our ligaments, joints, deep fascia network and even our bones. Yin yoga improves your flexibility and I am living proof ! Each year instead of becoming stiffer, I am becoming more flexible, it is truly amazing to feel my body becoming more open and I want to share this with you all. The more you practice in gentleness the quicker the effects.

Yin yoga takes me deep into meditation, I focus on my body in each posture then I begin ocean breath and drift away.... I practice a lot of Yin in summer, it is very cooling and revitalising, the postures are very easy to learn and adapt. All sitting postures are Yin but there effects are limited if you hold them for less than 2 1/2 minutes. No pain just a gentle stretch, keep still and only move if your body is stiffening or it is becoming painful. Most laying down postures are Yin too, you don’t have to complete a whole class to benefit and Yin is great to practice at home. Choose a posture, begin with one you enjoy in class, start to slow down your breath. I like to count my breath and 15 is the minimum amount of complete breaths, with practice the time spent will become longer. Your body will begin to relax and let go of tension, the joints and muscles will stretch and become more flexible and your mind will too!

More Marma Massage Please!

Yoga is a way of opening the energy that flows in the body. Blockage in the flow of prana or energy leads to pain and illness. The physical side of yoga, the exercises are created to balance and encourage prana and with time you may start to feel a tingling or buzzing sensation in parts of your body, strength and softness as you practice. There are many other ways to encourage wellness and the flow of prana. Marma massage is another physical way of releasing pain and tension and is wonderful when used in combination with the asana. Every one has been enjoying a gentle massage in the palm of the left hand using lovely relaxing oils as they lay in Savasana the meditation posture. Learn how to practice self massage and make your own oils over the year.

“Each of us can learn the art of nourishing happiness and love. Everything needs food to live, even love. If we don’t know how to nourish our love it withers. When we feed and support our own happiness, we are nourishing our ability to love. That’s why to love means to learn the art of nourishing happiness.” THICH NHAT HANH.
